Tomomi Okubo

Tomomi grew up in Japan, helping her mother make clothes for her family. Years later, at the top-rated Bunka Fashion School in Tokyo, she learned to make clothes on her own, becoming a patternmaker at Comme des Garçons before moving to New York in 1999. There, she received her Associate Degree in Applied Science in Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design and began working for Manhattan fashion companies, including Theory and Ralph Lauren.

After many years as a professional patternmaker, Tomomi had a chance to create her own wedding dress. It affected her deeply—designing the pieces, choosing the silk and lace fabrics, wearing the finished gown—she felt all her life’s experiences finally united inside herself.

Now with her own company, Tomomi Okubo handles every aspect of dressmaking, from the initial designs through the draping, using natural fabric and lace.
